Monterrey, Mexico (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Roberta Vinci advanced to the
second round at the $220,000 Monterrey Open on Monday.
The Italian defeated American Coco Vandeweghe in 7-5, 7-5 fashion on the
hardcourts at Sierra Madre Tennis Club.
In other opening round action, second-seeded Italian Sara Errani made quick
work of Stephanie Dubois, besting the Canadian 6-2, 6-2.
Additional Day-1 wins came for Russian Nina Bratchikova and Romanian Alexandra
Cadantu.
Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who is not defending her title this week,
defeated former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic in last year's Monterrey finale.
This week's big winner will claim $37,000.
