Wilmington, NC (Sports Network) - Rob Brandenberg scored 21 points and cleared
six rebounds in a reserve role as he helped guide Virginia Commonwealth to a
63-59 win over UNC-Wilmington in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at
Trask Coliseum.
Also scoring in double figures for the Rams (24-6, 14-3 CAA) as they posted
their second straight win and the 13th in the last 14 outings, was Juvonte
Reddic who tallied 14 and also notched a team-best nine rebounds.
The Seahawks (9-19, 5-12) were paced by Keith Rendleman who registered a
double-double with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds, but still the team
was handed a fifth straight loss. Tanner Milson tacked on 11 points and
Cedrick Williams seven points and a game-high 11 boards.
UNCW managed to put together a six-point lead with about eight and a half
minutes remaining in the first half, but even after shooting an impressive
52.0 percent from the floor the team had to settle for a 31-28 advantage at
the break.
In the second half the Seahawks were held to a total of just 10 made field
goals, the team hitting on only 1-of-6 behind the three-point line and 7-of-13
at the free-throw line. That lackluster effort allowed VCU to battle back and
take a double-digit lead with under five minutes left, before holding on for
the four-point decision.
In addition to shooting just 9-of-19 at the charity stripe, UNCW hurt itself
with 19 turnovers, which the Rams converted into 19 points.
