ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- T.C. Williams withstood a respectable fourth quarter come back effort from West Potomac to defeat the Wolverines, 62-49, on Friday night.
It was a game won on three-point shooting and lost because of communication struggles on the defensive end. Both teams were slow to settle into the match-up but picked up the tempo in the second quarter, combining for 31 total points.
The Titans dominated on offense with excellent shooting from forward Anthony Huggins and guard Jordan Byrd. In the second half, the T.C. Williams big men effectively boxed out West Potomac, making it nearly impossible for the Wolverines to grab a rebound.
West Potomac point guard Brandon Pressley still challenged the Titans though, with high-energy, quick drives to the basket and solid passing. Pressley connected with guard Randal Brobbey to bring the Wolverines fighting back, 49-42, with just 3:22 left in the game
But behind Huggins 22 point effort, T.C. was able to bounce back for the win.
"The last five or six losses we had the lead and we gave it away. That's something we can't do if we want to move forward," said T.C. head coach Julian King.
The Titans (8-7) will hit the court at Woodson on Tuesday while the Wolverines (11-4) will travel to South County.
