POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA) -- The Georgetown Day Hoppers (9-6) prevailed over the St. Andrew's Rampant Lions (9-8), 51-35, in an intense defensive battle. The Hoppers' victory was their first in conference play this season while the Rampant Lions fell to 0-5 in the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAC).

Anthony Campbell was the star of the show Friday night with 26 points and 12 rebounds. He also helped force several St. Andrew's turnovers. The 6-foot senior guard is averaging 26.3 points per game.

The Lions rallied in the third quarter, cutting the Georgetown lead down to 31-28, but an onslaught of Campbell in the fourth quarter and strong defense guided the Hoppers to outscore the Rampant Lions 20-7 in the final eight minutes of the game.

The Georgetown Day squad is full of seniors who play smart basketball on and off the court. Head coach Brian Bobo reported that six of his players have received early acceptance letters into colleges such as Dartmouth, Harvard, UPenn, Yale and Georgia Tech.

Campbell himself is garnering loads of interest from colleges for both his basketball and track and field skills. He holds the school record for triple jump and won several individual events at the 2011 MAC championships.

The Hoppers will have their work cut out for them as they enter the final stretch of the season. Sidwell Friends (11-5) and the Potomac School (10-5) will be tough teams to beat in the postseason.
