WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) --- Members and friends of the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) have been working for months preparing for the 9th annual Blue Jeans Ball.
The charity is an annual fundraiser for the largest food bank and nutrition education center in the DC Metropolitan area.
On Wednesday night, friends and CAFB members got to celebrate their efforts with a pre-event, a denim fashion show at Neiman Marcus Mazza Gallerie. Neiman Marcus is an official sponsor of this year's Blue Jeans Ball.
Lynn Brantley, founder and CEO/President of the food bank started the non-profit organization to address the hardships faced by people living under the recession in the 70's.
Today, hunger remains a persistent problem in the community. More than 600,000 area residents face hunger and malnutrition, according to CAFB. The Food Bank is expanding into a new facility for the summer of 2012.
The Blue Jeans Ball gathers people together for the fight against hunger each spring. The 2012 Blue Jeans Ball includes a silent and live auction, food tastings prepared by participating restaurants and live music.
Guests celebrate by wearing jeans and other denim clothing items.
The Blue Jeans Ball takes place on April 22, 2012 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
