Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Mardy Fish and fellow American
Sam Querrey each advanced to the semifinals of the $1 million Citi Open tennis
event with straight-set victories on Friday.
Fish blew past Belgium's Xavier Malisse, 6-3, 6-4, while the eighth-seeded
Querrey took down third-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa, 6-4, 6-4, on
the hardcourts at William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center.
Querrey, a titlist in Los Angeles last week, will next take on second-seeded
Alexandr Dolgopolov of the Ukraine, who was a 7-6, 6-4 winner over American
James Blake.
Blake was the D.C. champion in 2002 and runner-up in 2005.
Earlier Friday, resurgent fourth-seeded German Tommy Haas reached the semis by
spanking compatriot Tobias Kamke 6-1, 6-2 in 62 minutes. Haas served very well
and was not broken on Day 5.
The 34-year-old Haas stunned Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in a final in
Haas' native Germany in June and has won 13 of his last 16 matches on tour.
The 2012 D.C. champion will collect $252,600.
